Hooray! :D

I could totally see them discussing the Betazoid plays and getting hot and bothered by it; it's just so realistically them.

Hee, yes. I've always loved the hints of their conversations that we get - I can just imagine them going on for hours about all sorts of things. (And ha ha, I loved how in "The Die is Cast," Julian's trying to have Garak-conversations with Miles - he's all "HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT LITERATURE, MILES. >:(", and Miles is like, "I just want to eat. :(" )

loved that Julian had a spine (one of my biggest pet peeves for the fandom was wussy-Julian)

Huh - I haven't done a lot of reading in the fandom, but it really surprises me that Julian would be written as wussy a lot. I mean, one of his defining characteristics is how opposite of wussy he is, almost to the point of fool-hardiness. Like in "The Wire," when Odo tells him that the Obsidian Order is the most scary and ruthless secret police organization evar, and later in the episode, he's all "...yeah, I think I'm just going to show up at the head of the Obsidian Order's house and demand he help make my boyfriend better. That's a good plan, right?" Or in "Hippocratic Oath," when the Jem'Hadar have imprisoned them and Julian's all "I must help them find a cure to their addiction!" and Miles is all "WTF THEY ARE GOING TO KILL US" and Juilan's like "IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. >:( And I'm sure they'll be grateful and not kill us at all!" And then Miles has to blow up his equipment to get him to leave. Oh, Julian. ♥

Of course his motivation was to protect Julian, but in his own way, Garak doesn't want to condescend to Julian about his needing to be protected

Hee, yes. And he realizes that it won't work anyway - Julian has a difficult time with the concept of being vulnerable!

The fact that he swallows his pride enough to try things Julian's way is a huge character moment for him, and I just really love that.

I'm glad it worked! I wanted to show that Garak is really committed to this relationship, but I also wanted to make sure to portray how difficult it is for him to let go and just trust that things will be OK. It really is a huge moment for his character, when he realizes that he can have either control, or he can have Julian - but not both.

And yay happy endings! It's nice to write a pairing that's capable of them. :P
