Oh god, I have no idea who most of these people are (also, I thought I had heard of most people from the Jossverse through fandom osmosis, but I have never heard of Winnifred... wait, is that "Fred"? I have heard of a Fred who is a girl), but here goes:

Mohinder & Simon (and sort-of Snape): so well-meaning but misunderstood, so socially awkward, isolated loners, always getting tragedy as their reward for trying to help and protect people

Veronica & Buffy: teenage kickass girls who think quick on their feet and have a sharp tongue in their mouths

Sylar & Ben: sociopaths with intense mommy and daddy issues, who desperately DESPERATELY need to feel special; and who have bizarre nigh-friendships with their main adversaries; human life doesn't hold much value for them if it gets in the way of their goals (by the way, after wishing someone would just fucking shoot Ben and shut him up for three seasons---I seriously cannot stand those "I am going to flaunt my secrets at you but not tell" kinds of characters---they seriously sold his redemption, to the point where I was BAWLING throughout the finale with love for him, for saving Hurley from the tree, for line delivery of "it sounds like they're making progress" and then MOST OF ALL for "you do what you do best, take care of people---you can start by getting Desmond home". WRACKING SOBS OF LOVE. And then with Locke in the alt. I can't even. Hearts. All over him. I feel like they kept trying to do the same with Sylar, but it didn't take? Like, they wouldn't commit to his redemption in the same way because he was too cool as a villain? I don't know, but now on the rewatch, Ben and I are doing fine.)

Randomly? I now want a crossover of April and Jayne.

ETA: I think you should watch Alias. Simply because A) You would be just as in love with Jack Bristow as I am---he's like this awesome combination of Sayid and Ben? Also, the actor who played Locke is there as his adversary, and there are just a lot of scenes of "Locke" screaming at Jack about the way they disagree about methods, and going behind one another's backs to do things the way they think they should be done and it's pretty funny and B) David Anders as Sark is basically Adam Monroe x 10000000000000 in terms of awesome hotness. It's the same character, but sort of better? And snarkier.

Yup, that's her! I think you'd like her - she's quirky and awkward and adorable.

Mohinder & Simon (and sort-of Snape): so well-meaning but misunderstood, so socially awkward, isolated loners, always getting tragedy as their reward for trying to help and protect people

I would have never thought to put Mohinder and Simon together, but yeah, that totally fits! I would definitely include Snape in that, only it didn't really become apparent until the last book. I think Snape and Simon are very similiar in a lot of ways - they are both SO socially awkward and viewed as creeps, with the key difference being that Simon is a nice, sweet person under all the awkwardness and Snape is basically an asshole, even if it does turn out that he's on the good side at the end. And huh - I can see some similarities between Mohinder and Snape, too, with their very angry sarcasm and sense of righteous indignation.

Sylar & Ben: sociopaths with intense mommy and daddy issues, who desperately DESPERATELY need to feel special; and who have bizarre nigh-friendships with their main adversaries; human life doesn't hold much value for them if it gets in the way of their goals

That's a really good point about how the closest things they have to "friends" are people who hate them. Awww. Zuko fits into that, too (although he's not a sociopath at all - just misguided)(and you have no idea what I'm talking about, lol - but TRUST ME, it works).

Ha ha, I've always loved Benry, but I can definitely see how he could be annoying, especially since his motivations didn't always make a lot of sense. But yes, I would definitely agree that he was his best and most interesting in the final season - the redemption arc was exceptionally well done - my heart just bled for him. The stuff with him and Locke was so complicated and interesting and heart-breaking.

And yeah, I think that's what they were going for with Sylar and they FAILED MISERABLY. That's what frustrated me so much with Sylar, because it's completely possible to turn an evil character around, but the writers were incredibly lazy and didn't want to bother to do the work - they were all "YOU GUYZ, HE'S SO MISUNDERSTOOD - FEEL SORRY FOR HIS POOR WIDDLE WOOBIE SELF" and then "NO WAIT, NEVERMIND, HE'S A COLD-HEARTED KILLER! BE SCARED!" "NO WAIT, WE TAKE THAT BACK - HE'S GOOD AGAIN!" etc. And yet, inexplicably, I still love him. Sigh.

Randomly? I now want a crossover of April and Jayne.

Ahahaha, he could do her evil bidding! that would be awesome.

Re: Alias - it has been on my to-watch list forever, and you have just made it even more enticing. I could have sworn I saw it on Hulu Plus or Netflix, but I just looked it up and it isn't. Rats. I might have to "liberate" it from the internets

Ahahaha - I love how he totally nails his motivation and is like "I'm not going to be part of your cutesy story," and then "...welcome to the family." I think in that guy's shoes, I'd run screaming. XD

AND HOLY FFFFFFUCK DAVE ANDERS IN LEATHER. GUH. Okay, I need to watch this show.

Speak of the devil!!! I just read that ABC has extended its deal with Netflix, and soon the complete series of Alias will be available for streaming. Seriously, the press release is dated TODAY. So just keep checking! It should be there soon.

People who are alienated due to some internal mechanism...either high intelligence (like Mohinder who really didn't seem to reach out or relate to people much, which is what made the whole Zane thing really unique to me) and then yeah Simon and Snape. Or Buffy being the Chosen one or Veronica Mars and her creation through events...and of course Sylar and his uh, mind lol.

Usually people on the outside who begin to focus their strengths and learn bonds...or not.

Holy cow, you're right - when I was writing this I thought it was kind of all over the place, but yeah - every single one of them is an outsider. That's really interesting - wonder what that says about me, lol.
